Bath resealing near Murrayfield

Bath resealing in Murrayfield without replacing anything

A good reseal is all about preparation: every bit of old silicone out, mould treated, the joint clean and dry. Only then does the new sealant go on, in a neat, continuous bead. Whether it’s unsealed corners and stained silicone, we can normally put it right, on shower trays & enclosures, basins & vanity units and baths alike.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

Murrayfield: your questions answered

Will there be a smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.

Do you cover the whole of Edinburgh?

Across the UK, so Murrayfield is covered. Prices do not change with location.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote with dates.

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

The bath or tray is probably flexing. Persistent splitting can mean the support needs attention.

How long does silicone take to cure?

You’ll get the curing time from us, generally around a day.

Are there extra charges for Murrayfield?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Do you seal over the old sealant?

We always remove the old sealant completely. New silicone won’t bond to old.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

Why reseal now?

A professional reseal costs little compared with water damage. It’s a quick job that protects your walls and floors. Compared with replacing, repairing typically costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

What happens on the day

Arrival times are agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the work takes a couple of hours in most cases. We leave the room clean and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Advice

What affects the price in Murrayfield

There is no charge for travel to Murrayfield. The price comes down to:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many areas need work
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Murrayfield. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Quotes from your pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • Any details about the material
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Most customers in Murrayfield get their price from photos. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

When to call us in Murrayfield

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning only removes the surface.

Contact us if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Damp near the bath
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • Gaps by the taps

Choosing a repair company

When a repair isn’t the answer

We would rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.
