FAQs for Ness

Why does mould come back so fast?

Damp is the cause. Run the fan, dry the joints and the new seal stays cleaner for longer.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

How long does silicone take to cure?

We will give you the curing time.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You don’t need to watch us work.

What areas do you cover?

All of Cheshire West and Chester, and the rest of the UK. There’s no extra charge for travel.

Do you seal over the old sealant?

All the old sealant comes out. New silicone will not bond to old.

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied. It fades as everything cures.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

How we handle bath resealing in Ness

A good reseal is all about preparation: every bit of old silicone out, mould treated, the joint clean and dry. Only then does the new sealant go on, as one neat, continuous bead. We regularly repair shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & sinks and basins & vanity units, and common reasons people contact us are gaps by the taps and black mould in the sealant.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Ness as everywhere else we work.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

How we price bath resealing

There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • Access to the area
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The type of damage
  • How many items we do on one visit

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Getting a price from photos

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any details about the material
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Upload photos of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your CH64 postcode, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

When to call us in Ness

Sealant does not last forever. Every bath or shower adds moisture and soap residue, which mould loves, and the joint moves slightly every time the bath is filled.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Gaps by the taps
  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Stained silicone
  • Leaks at the edges

What your quote should include

  • Aftercare advice
  • What preparation is included
  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • Who turns up on the day

Choosing a repair company

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Air the room after use
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting

Avoid scraping the joints, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

Is resealing worth it?

A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it.

The process

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, then carry out the work, which normally takes around two hours. If anything looks different from your pictures, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Let us know about parking or access

How to get a price

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. Quotes are free and no obligation.
