Bath resealing for Portland Bill homes

About our bath resealing in Portland Bill

A good reseal is all about preparation: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Only then does the new sealant go on, as one neat, continuous bead. If you are dealing with silicone coming away from the tiles and leaks at the edges, we can help, whatever the material.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Portland Bill as everywhere else we work.

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Aftercare tips

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Give the seal a regular clean

Run the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. It may be more than a reseal, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.

What bath resealing costs

We don’t charge extra for travel to Portland Bill. The price depends on:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How hard the colour is to match

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed price

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can give you a fixed price the same day in most cases.

Repairs by material

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take around two hours. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Open a window if you can
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

How to get a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Most reseals take about two hours. Leave it to cure before use.

Resealing in Portland Bill: why it matters

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It soon peels, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before you book.
