How we handle bath resealing in Powderhall

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Failed sealant lets water get where it shouldn’t, and a new seal stops it. If you are dealing with discoloured, yellow sealant and unsealed corners, we can help.

Every repair is covered by our one-year guarantee.

Why it’s worth resealing in Powderhall

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

What you get with us

  • No need to remove anything
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Same prices wherever you are

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

What we’re called out for in Powderhall

Even good sealant eventually discolours particularly in a well-used bathroom. Steam, soap and movement all take their toll.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Water getting behind the bath or tray
  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Gaps in the seal
  • Stained silicone

What your quote should include

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included

Our hiring checklist

What affects the price in Powderhall

We do not charge extra for travel to Powderhall. The price depends on:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The material and finish

We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Getting a price from pictures

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Send us a picture of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, with your EH6 postcode, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

How it works

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can carry on at home. Protection goes down first, then the work takes about two hours for a bath. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We ensure the joint is completely dry.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, including around the taps.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Related advice

Can I fix it myself?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

When a repair is not the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we work on in Powderhall

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner

Do not scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and don’t stand bottles on the seal.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, and we’ll say if you need a builder or plumber.
