Bath resealing for South Portobello homes

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

Bath resealing in South Portobello without replacing anything

We cut out all of the old sealant, treat any mould, and apply fresh mould-resistant silicone. We do this for baths, showers, sinks and worktops, including the awkward bits behind the taps. If you are dealing with mould you can’t clean out and a messy previous reseal, we can usually put it right, whatever the material.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

FAQs for South Portobello

How do I book?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

Why does mould come back so fast?

Mostly moisture and poor ventilation. Mould-resistant silicone and good ventilation help.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

Do you cover South Portobello?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and travel to South Portobello. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

Normally because the bath or tray moves, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We seal baths full of water.

How long does silicone take to cure?

Normally about a day later. We’ll tell you the exact time.

How quickly can you book me in?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Why reseal now?

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

Why us?

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Usually one visit, start to finish

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal

Good ventilation is the best protection, and wipe the joints after use so mould struggles to take hold.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, with the joint fully dried first.

Work for landlords and builders

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in South Portobello as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it normally costs far less than a refit.

What we are called out for in South Portobello

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning cannot get it all out.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • Leaks at the edges
  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Gaps in the seal
  • A messy previous reseal

What your quote should include

  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • How your room will be protected
  • If travel is included in the price
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers

Choosing a repair company

How it works

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll get on with it. Most visits take about two hours for a bath, including clearing up.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We ensure the joint is completely dry.
  4. For a bath, we fill it with water first so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, including around the taps.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Getting a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath or shower, include your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.
