How we handle bath resealing in Rackham

A good reseal is all about preparation: every bit of old silicone out, mould treated, the joint clean and dry. Then the fresh sealant goes on, as one neat, continuous bead. We work on basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & sinks and shower trays & enclosures, and common reasons people get in touch are old sealant that looks dirty and an untidy old seal.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

What bath resealing costs

There’s no charge for travel to Rackham. The price comes down to:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The type of damage
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Access to the area

We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Quotes from your photos

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Any details about the material
  • Details of any past repairs

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and you are under no obligation.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, pictures and access details and we will handle the rest.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

Why it’s worth resealing in Rackham

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It soon peels, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for Rackham. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Why us?

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Free fixed quotes from pictures
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • A year’s guarantee on all work

Different materials, different repairs

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes about two hours for a bath. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Advice

When a repair is not the answer

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, for example:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Hidden water damage

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Rackham: your questions answered

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Can new silicone go over old?

Never over old. It’s removed, cleaned off and the joint dried first.

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.

Do you work in Rackham?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Rackham for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

Are there extra charges for Rackham?

We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Can landlords book you?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Which areas do you work in?

The whole UK, including all of West Sussex. Just include your postcode and we’ll confirm dates.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.
