How it works
On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take around two hours. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.
- The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
- Old sealant and residue are removed.
- The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
- Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
- The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
- Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

How to look after the repair
To keep it looking its best for years:
- Wipe the joints dry after use
- Use the extractor fan
- Air the room after use
- Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.
Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.
Is resealing worth it?
Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It soon peels, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Scot Hay. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.
Why Scot Hay clients choose us
- Repair technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
- Same prices wherever you are
- Nothing taken out or refitted
- We leave the room as we found it

Should I try a DIY kit first?
If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.
When a repair is not the answer
Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:
- Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
- A flexing bath
- Very wide gaps that need a trim
Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.
Surfaces we repair
- Wet rooms
- Shower trays & enclosures
- Baths
- Basins & vanity units
- Kitchen worktops & sinks
How we price bath resealing
There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:
- Whether we combine several jobs
- How many areas need work
- The material and finish
- How hard the colour is to match
A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.
Send photos for a quote
Two or three clear pictures are usually enough. Try to include:
- Details of any past repairs
- What it’s made of, if you know
- One sharp close-up of the damage
- A photo taken from further back
Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. There’s no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.

Common questions in Scot Hay
How do I book?
A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.
How long does resealing take?
A bath or shower generally takes a couple of hours. It then needs time to cure.
It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?
Generally, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.
Can you do more than one item on the same visit?
Yes. Doing several items on one visit generally costs less than separate visits. Include photos of each item.
Can you quote from pictures?
In nearly every case. If pictures do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.
Can new silicone go over old?
We always remove the old sealant completely. Fresh silicone does not stick to old.
Will the price change on the day?
It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.
Are you a vetted contractor?
Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.
