Bath resealing for Sindlesham homes

Should I try a DIY kit first?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

About our bath resealing in Sindlesham

Baths, trays, basins and kitchen worktops all get resealed. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours, then it needs to cure. We are often asked to fix gaps in the seal and gaps by the taps, across shower trays & enclosures, wet rooms and kitchen worktops & sinks.

You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before booking.

What a repair cannot fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Hollow or loose tiles
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Basins & vanity units

Common problems we fix in Sindlesham

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning only removes the surface.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • A messy previous reseal
  • Unsealed corners
  • Damp near the bath
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles

What to look for in a quote

  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
  • How your room will be protected

Different materials, different repairs

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Use the extractor fan
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Use the extractor fan, wipe the joints dry after use, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

How the visit works

The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes around two hours. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We ensure the joint is completely dry.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, including around the taps.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Advice

Is resealing worth it?

Resealing is routine maintenance. Leaving split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, which costs far more to put right. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Common questions in Sindlesham

Is it safe with children and pets around?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, so the repair isn’t disturbed while it cures.

How do I stop mould in sealant?

Mould needs moisture. Run the fan, dry the joints and the new seal stays cleaner for longer.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

All the old sealant comes out. Fresh silicone does not stick to old.

Is it messy?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

How long does a reseal take?

Most reseals take about two hours. It then needs time to cure.

My seal keeps tearing. Why?

The bath or tray is probably flexing. If it keeps happening, the support may need fixing.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Usually, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first, so mention it when you send photos.
