About our bath resealing in Skerne

We reseal baths, shower trays, basins and worktops using mould-resistant silicone. Most jobs take a couple of hours, then it needs to cure. Our repair technicians work on baths, shower trays & enclosures and basins & vanity units, and the jobs we see most are unsealed corners and water getting behind the bath or tray.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll come back.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

How it works

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the work takes a couple of hours. Before we leave, we explain the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Common questions in Skerne

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

How long does a reseal take?

Around two hours for a bath, then it needs to cure.

Do the materials smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

Why does mould come back so fast?

Mostly moisture and poor ventilation. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it generally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

All the old sealant comes out. Fresh silicone doesn’t stick to old.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

Signs you need bath resealing in Skerne

Sealant does not last forever. Each shower leaves moisture and soap behind, which mould feeds on, and the joint moves slightly every time the bath is filled.

Common reasons people in Skerne contact us are:

  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Gaps by the taps

What your quote should include

  • What prep work is covered
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • How soon you can use it again
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show

Our hiring checklist

What bath resealing costs

We do not charge extra for travel to Skerne. The price depends on:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Skerne. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Quotes from your pictures

You can take the photos on your phone. Ensure they show:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath or shower
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can price the job.

Aftercare tips

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Keep the joints dry
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Don’t stand toiletries on the seal

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, normally about a day.

Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.
