How we handle bath resealing in Stanford

We reseal baths with them filled with water, so the joint opens fully, which stops the new seal tearing the first time the bath is used. We regularly repair shower trays & enclosures, baths and kitchen worktops & sinks, and people most often call us about water getting behind the bath or tray and black mould in the sealant.

Every repair is covered by a one-year guarantee.

Prices and what affects them

We price every job individually, from your photos. The main factors are:

  • How many areas need work
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • What the surface is made of
  • Doing more than one item at once

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Stanford. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Send pictures for a quote

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • What it’s made of, if you know

To get a price, send a couple of photos through our quote form or ring us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

What we do, step by step

Arrival times are agreed in advance. On site, it takes around two hours for most jobs. The room is left tidy and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Advice

Questions from Stanford

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners in Stanford.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

Are you accredited?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

How long before I can shower?

Usually after around 24 hours. We confirm before we leave.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

What does bath resealing cost?

The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it generally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

What a repair cannot fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Hidden water damage

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

What we work on

  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths

Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Wipe the joints dry after use

Keep the room well ventilated, and wipe the joints after use to keep mould away.

Reseal before water gets in. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

Why reseal now?

Resealing costs very little, and it protects everything around the bath. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.
