About our bath resealing in Stirches
A proper reseal starts with removing every trace of the old silicone. Fresh sealant does not stick to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. We work on kitchen worktops & sinks, shower trays & enclosures and baths, and people most frequently call us about black spots in the silicone and gaps by the taps.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after the visit.

Different materials, different repairs
Shower trays
We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.
Baths
Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.
Why reseal now?
Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Should I try a DIY kit first?
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.
What happens on the day
We turn up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. Most visits take about two hours for a bath, and we leave the room as we found it.
- We cut out all of the old sealant.
- Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
- Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
- We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
- We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
- Let us know about parking or access
- Keep a parking space free if you can

Related advice
Stirches: your questions answered
What information do you need?
Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.
Will it make a mess?
Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we’ve finished.
Do you seal over the old sealant?
Never over old. It’s removed, cleaned off and the joint dried first.
Why does mould come back so fast?
Mould needs moisture. Ventilation and drying keep it clean longer.
What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?
We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.
Do I have to be there?
Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.
Can you repair several things at once?
Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.
Is repairing better than replacing?
Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.
