Bath resealing for Tai-Bach homes

Common problems we fix in Tai-Bach

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning cannot get it all out.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • An untidy old seal
  • Water getting behind the bath or tray
  • Old sealant that looks dirty
  • Gaps in the seal

About our bath resealing in Tai-Bach

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. New silicone won’t bond to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. Our repair technicians work on wet rooms, kitchen worktops & sinks and shower trays & enclosures, and people most often call us about mould you can’t clean out and silicone smeared on tiles.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Tai-Bach as everywhere else we work.

How the visit works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together. Then the area is sheeted and masked and we start. Allow a couple of hours, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, taps included.

Why it’s worth resealing in Tai-Bach

Resealing is a small job. Leaving split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and that damage costs much more to fix. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

What you get with us

  • Work done at your home or business
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Air the room after use
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Reseal before water gets in. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.
