Bath resealing for The Hythe homes

Bath resealing in The Hythe, done in place

A fresh seal protects your bathroom. Old, split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, and a new seal stops it. If you’re dealing with leaks at the edges and silicone smeared on tiles, we can usually put it right, on baths, kitchen worktops & sinks and wet rooms alike.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

How we price bath resealing

You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How many areas need work
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for The Hythe. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

You can take the photos on your phone, there is no need for anything special. Just make sure we can see:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Email us photos of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you are in The Hythe, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

DIY kit or professional repair?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

The Hythe: your questions answered

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are frequently glad to have it sorted before the end of a tenancy.

Do you cover the entire of Essex?

Everywhere in the UK, The Hythe included. There is no extra charge for travel.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

How long does silicone take to cure?

You will get the curing time from us.

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working that clears as it cures.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Include pictures of each item.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Ventilate the bathroom well

Run the extractor fan, wipe the joints dry after use, and clean them regularly with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Black mould in sealant is not just unsightly; it shows moisture is getting in. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

What we can’t put right

We would rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • A flexing bath
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Materials we work on in The Hythe

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms

What we do, step by step

Here’s how a visit normally runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Allow around two hours from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and how to care for it.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, including around the taps.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Advice

Is resealing worth it?

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. We remove the old sealant completely. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
