Bath resealing near Tow Law

Bath resealing in Tow Law, done in place

Resealing is quick, but it transforms the look. Fresh joints make the entire room look cleaner, and they keep water out. We’re frequently asked to fix silicone coming away from the tiles and silicone smeared on tiles, on basins & vanity units, baths and wet rooms.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Open a window after bathing
  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Keep the joints dry

Avoid scraping the joints, and don’t stand bottles on the seal.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

DIY kit or professional repair?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

Common problems we fix in Tow Law

Even good sealant eventually discolours, especially in a busy family bathroom. Steam, soap and movement all wear it down.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
  • Black mould in the sealant
  • Unsealed corners
  • Leaks at the edges

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges

  • What happens if they find more damage

When we would advise against a repair

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Hollow or loose tiles
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Prices and what affects them

A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We take into account:

  • The material and finish
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How hard the colour is to match

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Send pictures for a quote

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Something in shot to show the size

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through.

Different materials, different repairs

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

Why reseal now?

Resealing is routine maintenance. Leaving split or mouldy sealant can let water reach the walls and floor, which costs far more to put right. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Questions from Tow Law

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

Something is moving. Persistent splitting can mean the support needs attention.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, so the repair is not disturbed while it cures.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Usually, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Mould needs moisture. Run the fan, dry the joints and the new seal stays cleaner for longer.

Do you charge for travel?

We do not add a call-out fee. Your fixed quote includes everything.

Can you repair several things at once?

Of course, and it generally saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and we will quote them together.

How it works

Once we are through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the job takes around two hours, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

How to prepare

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
