Bath resealing at your home in Treowen

A fresh seal protects your bathroom. Failed sealant lets water get where it shouldn’t, and a new seal stops it. We are frequently asked to fix silicone smeared on tiles and black mould in the sealant, on wet rooms, shower trays & enclosures and basins & vanity units.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Treowen: your questions answered

Is there a guarantee?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

Generally because the bath or tray moves. We fill the bath before sealing it.

How do I book?

Photos of the damage, a picture of the entire bath or shower and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners in Treowen.

Do the materials smell?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.

How long does resealing take?

Typically a couple of hours, plus curing time.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

What bath resealing costs

There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • Access to the area
  • What the surface is made of
  • The colour and finish to match
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

How to get a fixed price

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath or shower

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

When to call us in Treowen

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning only removes the surface.

People typically call us after spotting one of these:

  • Old sealant that looks dirty
  • Mould you cannot clean out
  • Sealant that’s split or lifting
  • Silicone smeared on tiles

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Use the extractor fan

Leave the sealant to cure for the time we give you, normally around 24 hours.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

What happens on the day

We turn up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes around two hours, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

Resealing in Treowen: why it matters

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. We remove the old sealant completely. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, with the joint fully dried first.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

When a repair isn’t the answer

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • Hollow or loose tiles
  • Movement in the bath or tray

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Can I fix it myself?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.
