Bath resealing in Trimdon Grange, done in place

Baths, trays, basins and kitchen worktops all get resealed, with mould-resistant sanitary silicone. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours, then it needs to cure. We regularly repair kitchen worktops & sinks, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures, and the jobs we see most are discoloured, yellow sealant and an untidy old seal.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months. We return to put right any problem with the work.

What we’re called out for in Trimdon Grange

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning cannot get it all out.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • Stained silicone
  • Sealant that is split or lifting
  • Unsealed corners
  • Silicone smeared on tiles

What we can’t put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • A flexing bath

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures

What we do, step by step

We agree an arrival time beforehand. On site, it takes a couple of hours in most cases. The room is left tidy and you will know when it can be used.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. We run a continuous bead of new silicone.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

Advice

Trimdon Grange questions

What do you need from me?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

The bath or tray is probably flexing. Persistent splitting can mean the support needs attention.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Why does mould come back so fast?

Damp is the cause. Run the fan, dry the joints and the new seal stays cleaner for longer.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

Do you cover the whole of County Durham?

We work UK-wide. Prices don’t change with location.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

All the old sealant comes out. New silicone won’t bond to old.

How long before I can shower?

We’ll give you the curing time, generally around a day.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Let steam out after showers
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Dry the seal after bathing

Use the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

Resealing in Trimdon Grange: why it matters

Resealing is routine maintenance. Putting off a reseal can let water reach the walls and floor, and that damage costs much more to fix. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why Trimdon Grange clients choose us

  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Fixed prices from your pictures
