About our bath resealing in Tudeley

Preparation is everything in a reseal: every bit of old silicone out, mould treated, the joint clean and dry. Only then does the new sealant go on, as one neat, continuous bead. Common call-outs are for sealant that’s split or lifting and black spots in the silicone, on kitchen worktops & sinks, shower trays & enclosures and baths.

Peace of mind is built in: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Reseal before water gets in. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

Work for landlords and builders

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit.

Letting agents often send us photos straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

What happens on the day

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes around two hours, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

How to get a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath or shower, add your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Advice

Signs you need bath resealing in Tudeley

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning only removes the surface.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Gaps in the seal
  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Leaks at the edges
  • Gaps by the taps

Before booking anyone

  • When it can be used again
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • If travel is included in the price
  • How the colour is matched

Our hiring checklist

Common questions in Tudeley

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

What information do you need?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

How long will it take?

A bath or shower usually takes a couple of hours. It then needs time to cure.

Do you seal over the old sealant?

Never over old. It’s removed, cleaned off and the joint dried first.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Why does mould come back so fast?

Mould needs moisture. Ventilation and drying keep it clean longer.

What affects the price in Tudeley

You’ll know the full cost before booking. We look at:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The material
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Doing more than one item at once

A repair generally costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Quotes from your pictures

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath or shower
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Email us pictures of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, and tell us you’re in Tudeley, and we’ll come back with a fixed quote.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Why reseal now?

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
