Resealing in Twineham: why it matters

A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How we handle bath resealing in Twineham

We cut out all of the old sealant, treat any mould, and apply fresh mould-resistant silicone. We do this for baths, showers, sinks and worktops, and that includes the awkward spots behind the taps. Our repair technicians work on basins & vanity units, shower trays & enclosures and baths, and the jobs we see most are sealant that’s split or lifting and mould you can’t clean out.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

How to look after the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Use the extractor fan

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and don’t stand bottles on the seal.

Reseal before water gets in. Gaps or lifting edges mean it needs doing.

How it works

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to about two hours for a bath, including clearing up.

  1. The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed quote. You’re under no obligation.

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before and we will plan for it.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

When can I use the bath after resealing?

We’ll give you the curing time.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we will handle the rest.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Twineham use us as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it typically costs far less than a refit.

When we’d advise against a repair

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • Hollow or loose tiles
  • Movement in the bath or tray

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths

Common problems we fix in Twineham

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning only removes the surface.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Stained silicone
  • Unsealed corners
  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Gaps in the seal
