Need bath resealing in Upper Common?

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Bath resealing at your home in Upper Common

We reseal baths, shower trays, basins and worktops. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours, then it needs to cure. We’re often asked to fix black mould in the sealant and old sealant that looks dirty, across kitchen worktops & sinks, shower trays & enclosures and baths.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll come back.

Resealing in Upper Common: why it matters

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It peels within weeks, and traps mould underneath. We remove the old sealant completely. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

How it works

We agree an arrival time beforehand. Once we are there, the work takes a couple of hours for most jobs. We leave the room clean and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, including around the taps.

How to prepare

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting

Run the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and clean them regularly with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. It may be more than a reseal, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. We cannot fix:

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Common questions in Upper Common

How do I stop mould in sealant?

Mould needs moisture. Ventilation and drying keep it clean longer.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Do you come to Upper Common?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Upper Common and the rest of Hampshire. Send pictures and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

How do I book?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

Something is moving. If it keeps happening, the support may need fixing.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Usually, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Signs you need bath resealing in Upper Common

Sealant doesn’t last forever. Every bath or shower adds moisture and soap residue, which mould loves, and the joint flexes each time the bath fills.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • A messy previous reseal
  • Damp near the bath
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant

What your quote should include

  • What prep work is covered
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • How your room will be protected
  • Whether a trained technician does the job

10 questions to ask before booking

How we price bath resealing

You’ll know the full cost before you book. We take into account:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The material and finish

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

How to get a fixed quote

You can take the photos on your phone, there is no need for anything special. Just ensure we can see:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath or shower
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the whole bath or shower, include your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed quote, not an estimate.
