How we handle bath resealing in West Briggs

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. Fresh sealant does not stick to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. We’re frequently asked to fix sealant that’s split or lifting and unsealed corners, on baths, basins & vanity units and wet rooms.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in West Briggs as everywhere else we work.

When a repair isn’t the answer

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’ll tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures

What happens on the day

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can carry on at home. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes about two hours for a bath. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We ensure the joint is completely dry.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, taps included.

How to prepare

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Clear the area around the damage

Landlord and trade work in West Briggs

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

West Briggs: your questions answered

Why does mould come back so fast?

Typically poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. Mould-resistant silicone and good ventilation help.

How long does resealing take?

Around two hours for a bath, then it needs to cure.

What happens next?

We review the photos and send a fixed quote and the next dates we have.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

We always remove the old sealant completely. Fresh silicone does not stick to old.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

Movement is the usual cause, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We fill the bath before sealing it.

Do you cover the entire of Norfolk?

We cover the entire UK, including West Briggs and the rest of Norfolk. Just include your postcode and we’ll confirm dates.

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

What affects the price in West Briggs

You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • The material and finish
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • What kind of damage it is

Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Getting a price from photos

When you take your photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • One picture of the entire bath or shower
  • The material, if you know it
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

We price from pictures so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

Why it’s worth resealing in West Briggs

A professional reseal costs little compared with water damage. It’s quick, tidy and protects your home. Compared with replacing, repairing typically costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.
