Bath resealing for West Cross homes

Bath resealing at your home in West Cross

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. Fresh sealant does not stick to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. If you’re dealing with a messy previous reseal and water getting behind the bath or tray, we can usually put it right, on basins & vanity units, baths and wet rooms alike.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Why reseal now?

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. We remove the old sealant completely. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Repairs by material

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, with the joint fully dried first.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Common problems we fix in West Cross

Poor ventilation speeds things up: moisture sits on the joints longer, and mould takes hold.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • A messy previous reseal
  • Gaps by the taps
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • Damp near the bath

How to compare quotes

For landlords and businesses

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

If you manage property in West Cross, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send photos for each address and we’ll come back with a combined price.

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take around two hours, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Advice

What bath resealing costs

You won’t pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Quotes from your pictures

Two or three clear photos are normally enough. It helps if you send:

  • The material, if you know it
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Your questions about bath resealing in West Cross

What happens if you find more damage?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Most of the time. Tell us what was done before.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

You’ll get a fixed quote back. You are under no obligation.

When can I use the bath after resealing?

You’ll get the curing time from us, generally around a day.

Do you come to West Cross?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to West Cross for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

When we would advise against a repair

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’d rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Movement in the bath or tray

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.
