Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, normally about a day.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

What we do, step by step

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Plan for about two hours for a bath from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

How we price bath resealing

There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How easy the damage is to reach

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Getting a price from pictures

Two or three clear photos are typically enough. It helps if you send:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Details of any past repairs

If you are in Woodhall Farm and want a price, photos are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Why it’s worth resealing in Woodhall Farm

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

What you get with us

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • A fixed quote before booking
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

Common questions in Woodhall Farm

Can you price it without visiting?

Yes, almost always. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

What areas do you cover?

We cover the entire UK, including Woodhall Farm and the rest of Hertfordshire. Send your postcode with your photos and we’ll confirm dates.

How long does silicone take to cure?

Normally after around 24 hours. We confirm before we leave.

Do you charge for travel?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We review the photos and send a fixed quote with dates.

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Mostly moisture and poor ventilation. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.

Do the materials smell?

There can be some smell while we work, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.

Can pets and children be at home?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

When we would advise against a repair

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • Hollow or loose tiles

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before you book.
