Repair or replace in Greenigoe?

Swapping a coloured suite for a white one involves new sanitaryware, a plumber and a tiler. Resurfacing turns it white without taking anything out. Prices start from £350. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

What affects the price in Greenigoe

Prices start from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How much damage there is

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Greenigoe. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • Any details about the material
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One picture of the whole suite

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.

When to call us in Greenigoe

Avocado, pampas and pink suites were everywhere in the 70s and 80s, and many are still sound. It’s generally the colour that dates them, not the condition.

If you can see any of these, send us a picture:

  • Selling or letting a home with an old suite
  • A suite that doesn’t match a new bathroom
  • Faded or patchy colour
  • A dated coloured suite you’d like in white

Before booking anyone

  • How your room will be protected
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • How the colour is matched
  • Whether the price covers travel

How to compare quotes

When a repair isn’t the answer

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • The inside of a toilet bowl, unless we’ve agreed it will last
  • Items cracked right through
  • Fittings and taps (these are masked, not recoloured)

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Whole bathroom suites
  • Coloured shower trays
  • Avocado, pampas and pink baths
  • Coloured basins

What we do, step by step

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Allow a day or two, depending on how many items from start to finish. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Each item is cleaned, degreased and any chips repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and primed.
  4. We spray on the new finish in white or your chosen colour.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the suite is ready.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Greenigoe questions

Are there extra charges for Greenigoe?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed price, plus dates. You’re under no obligation.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders across the Orkney Islands.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Usually, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Can you turn my avocado bath white?

Yes. It’s resurfaced in white where it stands.

For landlords and businesses

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in the Orkney Islands and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

DIY kit or professional repair?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.
