Questions from Downend

Will a non-slip coating change how my bath looks?

Only slightly: the treated area looks slightly matt.

Do you cover the whole of Isle of Wight?

Everywhere in the UK, Downend included. Travel is included in the price.

What happens if you find more damage?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Can you repair several things at once?

Of course, and it generally saves money. Just add the extra items to your pictures and you’ll get one combined price.

Do you come to Downend?

Yes, we do. Repair technicians travel to Downend from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Usually, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

Non-slip bath coating in Downend without replacing anything

It’s popular with older people, families and holiday lets. It’s a clear, textured coating, so the bath looks much the same. Common call-outs are for resurfaced baths that are now too smooth and bath mats that harbour mould or get forgotten, in shower trays, resurfaced baths and enamelled baths.

All our work comes with our one-year guarantee. Clean with a soft brush and a mild cleaner. Avoid scourers on the coating.

What a repair can’t fix

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • Surfaces that are already damaged or peeling (these need repairing first)
  • Textured areas still wet or recently cleaned with oily products
  • Outdoor surfaces

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Resurfaced baths
  • Wet room floors (ask us)
  • Acrylic baths
  • Enamelled baths
  • Shower trays

What we do, step by step

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes a few hours. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. First the standing area is cleaned and degreased.
  2. The area to be treated is masked out.
  3. We apply the clear textured coating.
  4. The masking comes off to leave a neat edge.
  5. The coating is left to cure before use, normally overnight.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Ask for a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath or shower tray, add your postcode and send them to us. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

Should you replace it?

The alternatives are a new textured bath or tray, or a bath mat that needs lifting and cleaning. A coating adds grip to the bath you have. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

How we price non-slip bath coating

We don’t charge extra for travel to Downend. The price depends on:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Getting a price from photos

Phone pictures are fine, there’s no need for anything special. Just make sure we can see:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The material, if you know it
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

Common problems we fix in Downend

Baths and trays are made smooth so they’re easy to clean, yet wet, soapy surfaces are slippery. The textured patch on an older bath also wears down over time.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Safety for older or less mobile people
  • A bath or tray that is slippery when wet
  • Resurfaced baths that are now too smooth
  • Bath mats that harbour mould or get forgotten

Before booking anyone

  • How your room will be protected
  • What prep work is covered
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
