Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Non-slip bath coating in Stella without replacing anything

It’s popular with older people, families and holiday lets. It’s a clear, textured coating, so it shows only as a slightly matt area where you stand. We are often asked to fix a bath or tray that is slippery when wet and safety for older or less mobile people, in resurfaced baths, shower trays and enamelled baths.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right. Clean with a soft brush and a mild cleaner. Avoid scourers on the coating.

What we are called out for in Stella

Baths and trays are made smooth so they’re easy to clean, but with soap and water on them they become slippery. Textured areas on older baths wear smooth too.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • A bath or tray that is slippery when wet
  • Worn-out textured areas
  • Safety for older or less mobile people
  • Resurfaced baths that are now too smooth

Choosing a repair company

Honest limits

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we would rather say so up front. We cannot fix:

  • Surfaces that are already damaged or peeling (these need repairing first)
  • Textured areas still wet or recently cleaned with oily products
  • Outdoor surfaces

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

What we work on

  • Resurfaced baths
  • Shower trays
  • Enamelled baths
  • Wet room floors (ask us)
  • Acrylic baths

How the visit works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. Then the area is sheeted and masked and we start. Allow a morning or an afternoon, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. We start by degreasing the area where you stand.
  2. We mask out the area to be treated.
  3. We put on the clear non-slip coating.
  4. We lift the masking for a clean edge.
  5. The coating is left to cure before use, typically overnight.

How to prepare

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

How to get a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

How we price non-slip bath coating

We give every job a fixed price from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Access to the area
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Quotes from your pictures

You can take the pictures on your phone. Just make sure we can see:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the entire bath or shower tray, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Common questions in Stella

What happens after I send pictures?

You’ll get a fixed quote back, plus dates. There is no obligation to book.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Usually, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Is a non-slip bath easy to clean?

Yes. Use a soft brush and a mild cleaner.

Do the materials smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working that clears as it cures.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Do you cover the entire of Newcastle upon Tyne?

We work UK-wide, and that includes Stella. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Instead, you could go for a new textured bath or tray, or a bath mat that needs lifting and cleaning. A coating treats your existing bath or tray. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
