How we handle non-slip bath coating in Workhouse Hill

It’s popular with homes with older or less mobile people, holiday lets and families. The coating is clear and textured, so it shows only as a slightly matt area where you stand. We work on enamelled baths, resurfaced baths and wet room floors (ask us), and common reasons people get in touch are bath mats that harbour mould or get forgotten and resurfaced baths that are now too smooth.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee. Clean with a soft brush and a mild cleaner. Don’t use abrasive pads on the textured area.

Why repair rather than replace?

The alternatives are replacing the bath or tray with a textured one, or a bath mat, which traps water and needs cleaning. A coating treats your existing bath or tray. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

The process

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which normally takes a few hours. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. We clean and degrease the standing area.
  2. Next we mask off the area.
  3. We apply the clear textured coating.
  4. We remove the masking for a neat edge.
  5. The coating is left to cure before use, generally overnight.

Before we arrive

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access

10 questions to ask before you book

Prices and what affects them

We price every job individually. The main factors are:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The material
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

We do not add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

How to get a fixed price

You can take the pictures on your phone. Make sure they show:

  • One picture of the whole bath or shower tray
  • Any details about the material
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

What a repair can’t fix

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Surfaces that are already damaged or peeling (these need repairing first)
  • Textured areas still wet or recently cleaned with oily products
  • Outdoor surfaces

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Wet room floors (ask us)
  • Enamelled baths
  • Shower trays
  • Resurfaced baths
  • Acrylic baths
