About bath repair in IP15

Chips, cracks, rust spots and small holes can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. There’s no plumbing to disconnect, the tiles aren’t touched, and the repaired area is colour-matched so it blends in. Our technicians work on cast iron enamel, pressed steel enamel and roll-top & freestanding, and the jobs we see most are scratches you can feel with a fingernail and chips under the taps.

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before any work starts. The work itself takes a morning or an afternoon, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Near you in Aldeburgh

Typical jobs here are in homes near St Peter and St Paul's Church, The Railway Inn and The Haven, among other places. Well-known places in the area include Aldeburgh Cottage Hospital (under half a mile south) and Hazlewood (1.8 miles north-west). For a walk, there is North Warren RSPB reserve.

When a repair is not the answer

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet

Work for landlords and builders

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.

Letting agents frequently send us photos straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

What we’re called out for in IP15

Rust generally starts where water sits, by the plughole, beneath dripping taps or in an unrepaired chip. Once water reaches the steel or iron, rust spreads under the enamel.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • Chips caused by builders
  • Chips along the edge of the bath

IP15: your questions answered

Will the repair show?

On a glossy bath, you’ll struggle to find it. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

In most cases. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so we need access under the bath.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before.

Do you work in IP15?

We do. Repair technicians travel to IP15 from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

What does bath repair cost?

Prices start from £95. Every job gets a fixed price from your pictures. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this frequently. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.
