Our bath repair service in M31
It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, while cracks in acrylic grow each time the bath moves. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Typical jobs include rusty patches near the plughole and cracks in an acrylic bath, on roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel.
It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, then carry out the work, which typically takes a morning or an afternoon. If anything looks different from your pictures, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.
- We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
- Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
- The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
- We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
- The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.
What you will pay
Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.
Why choose Surface Doctor

Near you in Partington

Other local landmarks include Broadoak School (within half a mile south) and Rixton Clay Pits (1.8 miles west). The nearest railway station is Irlam station, roughly 1.2 miles north of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find Lymm Heritage Centre (3.1 miles south-west) and Trafford General Hospital (3.6 miles north-east). The countryside around Partington includes Brookheys Covert Nature Reserve.
Honest limits
Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:
- A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
- Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below
- Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
How we price bath repair
Prices start from £95. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We take into account:
- Unusual colours or finishes
- How many items we do on one visit
- Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
- Where the damage is and how we get to it
Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.
Getting a price from photos
Two or three clear photos are normally enough. Try to include:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Details of any past repairs
- A close-up of the damage, in focus
- A wider photo showing the entire bath
Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and you will get a fixed price back. Quotes are free and no obligation.
Looking after it afterwards
After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Put a towel in the bath if you’re working above it
- Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
- If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
- Store metal items away from the bath
Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Deal with new chips early, before rust sets in.
Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Remove it before the repair.
Signs you need bath repair
Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, any chip down to the metal will start to rust.
Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Chips under the taps
- Rust spots around the plughole
- A failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting
- A chipped rim or side
Different materials, different repairs
Acrylic
Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.
Questions from M31
Is it OK to have pets in the house?
Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.
Can you repair a failed DIY repair?
Yes. We take out the old repair and do it properly. Mention it when you send photos.
Can you repair several things at once?
Of course, and it typically saves money. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.
It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?
Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.
What happens if you find more damage?
The price is fixed for what the photos show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.
Will the repair show?
The goal is a repair that blends in. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath, and we’ll tell you what to expect.
