How bath repair works in NG4

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. The method changes with the material: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. We regularly repair roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and cast iron enamel, and common reasons people contact us are snagging damage from a refit and damage beneath the taps.

On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job typically takes two to three hours for most chips. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Work for landlords and builders

For anyone letting property in or around NG4, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Just send pictures for each address and we will come back with a combined price.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in NG4 use us as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it generally costs far less than a refit.

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.

When a repair is not the answer

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below

Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine without abrasive products.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

Common questions in NG4

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

How invisible is a bath repair?

On a glossy bath, you will struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

How long before I can use the bath?

Generally the day after. We confirm the time before we leave.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.

Can tenants book a repair?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Do you work in NG4?

Yes, we do. Repair technicians travel to NG4 from across the region, with no extra charge for travel.

Do the materials smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.
