About bath repair in SG3

You don’t need a new bath because of a chip. Our repair technicians fill, shape and refinish the damage, with the colour mixed on site so the repair is hard to spot. We’re frequently asked to fix rust by the waste and overflow and damage beneath the taps, across cast iron enamel, roll-top & freestanding and acrylic.

The work is clean and fairly quiet. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes a few hours, depending on the damage. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

Cost

Prices start from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Landlord and trade work in SG3

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we’ll handle the rest.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there’s no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. Several plots can be done in one visit.

When we’d advise against a repair

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • A steel bath rusted through
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

How to look after the repair

To keep it looking its best:

  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early

Do not leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.

Repairing versus replacing

Replacing a fitted bath normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and disposing of the old one. Repairing it deals only with the damage in one visit.

SG3 questions

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Generally, yes, if we can reach behind it. The hole is backed, filled and refinished to match.

Can you price it without visiting?

In nearly every case. If photos do not show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

How quickly can you book me in?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders across Hertfordshire.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.
