How bath repair works in ZE1

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. We’re often asked to fix snagging damage from a refit and damage beneath the taps, across pressed steel enamel, roll-top & freestanding and acrylic.

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we will get on with it. Most visits take a few hours, including clearing up.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can typically use the bath the next day.

What you will pay

Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before you book.

What you get with us

  • Fixed prices from your pictures
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • One visit for most repairs
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing

How to get a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Local landmarks in Lerwick

In Lerwick, that means homes near St Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, Grand Hotel and Anderson High School and the streets around them. A little further out are Gilbert Bain Hospital (less than half a mile south) and Shetland Museum (less than half a mile north-east). Not far away are Setter Hill and Clickimin Loch.

Repair or replace?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, the panel may not fit the new one, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. Repairing the damage avoids all of that.

Work for landlords and builders

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in ZE1 as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.

If you manage property in ZE1, we will quote for several properties at once. Just send photos for each address and we will price them together.

What we are called out for in ZE1

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: the bath isn’t properly supported, so it flexes under weight.

Common reasons people in ZE1 contact us are:

  • Holes from dropped items
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Chips under the taps

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • How many areas need work
  • Doing more than one item at once

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Getting a price from photos

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Any details about the material

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can price the job without visiting.

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early

Do not leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so early repair keeps the cost down.

ZE1: your questions answered

Will there be a smell?

There can be some smell while we work. It clears as the materials cure.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Usually, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Check under the bath panel, or send us a picture.

How soon can you come?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Can pets and children be at home?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Do you cover the entire of the Shetland Islands?

We work UK-wide, and that includes ZE1. Our prices are the same everywhere.

How do I book?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Will the repair last?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.
