Trusted shower tray repair in Appledore

Different materials, different repairs

Stone resin

Stone resin trays are popular because they’re rigid and low-profile. A flat, solid base is essential, and repairs are matched to the gel coat.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Shower tray repair at your home in Appledore

In most cases, a damaged tray can be repaired where it is, from chipped edges to cracks across the floor of the tray. The colour and finish are matched so the repair blends in. We are often asked to fix movement when you stand on it and damage from a refit or building work, in enamelled steel, cast iron and ceramic.

Peace of mind is built in: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a tray normally means refitting the screen, retiling and resealing. A repair leaves all of that untouched, at a fraction of the cost. Our shower tray repair starts from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why us?

  • Repair technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Multiple cracks across the tray
  • Movement caused by a poor base, until the support is fixed
  • Damage below the tray that needs a builder

How to look after the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep the bathroom well ventilated
  • Report any creaking or movement early
  • Rinse the tray after each shower
  • Don’t stand heavy bottles on the tray

Check the silicone around the tray every few months, and reseal when it starts to fail.

Failed sealant around a tray should be replaced quickly. Water gets behind and under the tray and can damage the floor below.

What we are called out for in Appledore

Trays crack mainly because they move: if a tray wasn’t bedded on a solid, even base, it flexes each time someone stands on it. Chips typically come from dropped bottles.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • A tray that flexes
  • Damage around the waste
  • Staining and dullness across the tray
  • A cracked shower tray

How it works

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we’re there. We protect the area first, then the work takes a few hours, or most of a day for a full resurface. Before we leave, we explain the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. The surrounding area is sheeted and masked.
  2. Any sealant in the way is cut out.
  3. The tray is cleaned, keyed and repaired.
  4. We refinish the surface to match the tray.
  5. We clean up and give you the curing time.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

Advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.
