Keeping it looking good

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Rinse away soap after showering
  • Clean with washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Reseal when the silicone splits or turns black

Rinse the tray after use, use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, and keep the sealant in good condition so water cannot get underneath.

A tray that moves underfoot needs looking at, before it cracks.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

Repairing versus replacing in Bridge of Cally

Replacing a tray typically means refitting the screen, retiling and resealing. Repairing it avoids all of that. Our shower tray repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Bridge of Cally questions

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Just add the extra items to your pictures and we will quote them together.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

How long does it take to cure?

You’ll get the exact time when we finish.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Typically, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

What we can’t put right

In fairness, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Leaking waste fittings
  • Rotten or damaged flooring underneath
  • Movement caused by a poor base, until the support is fixed

Choosing a repair company

Repairs by material

Ceramic

Ceramic trays are hard and glossy. They chip and crack from impact, and the repair is polished to match the shine.

Stone resin

Stone resin is a dense, rigid material with a smooth gel coat. They crack if the base is not fully supported, and chips are filled and matched to the surface.

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take a few hours for a repair, longer for a full resurface, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. The surrounding area is sheeted and masked.
  2. Any sealant in the way is cut out.
  3. The tray is cleaned, keyed and repaired.
  4. The surface is refinished to match.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when you can shower.
