Shower tray repair in Cocklake, done in place

A worn or stained tray can be resurfaced, for a clean, uniform finish without removing the screen or tiles. Our repair technicians work on stone resin, enamelled steel and cast iron, and the jobs we see most are a dull, stained or worn surface and movement when you stand on it.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will come back.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new shower tray normally involves removing the screen and tiling, preparing a new base and re-tiling. Repairing or resurfacing the tray leaves all of that alone. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

FAQs for Cocklake

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Do you redo the sealant?

We can. It’s a good time to replace old sealant.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Do you cover Cocklake?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Cocklake for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

How long before I can shower?

You’ll get the exact time when we finish, generally the day after.

What do you need from me?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What affects the price in Cocklake

Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • How many areas need work
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Doing more than one item at once

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Send photos for a quote

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • One picture of the whole shower tray
  • Any details about the material
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a photo from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote. There’s no charge for the quote and no obligation.

The process

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we’re there. We protect the area first, then the work takes a few hours, or most of the day to resurface the whole tray. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We check the tray is firmly supported and find the cause of any crack.
  2. We clean and prepare the damaged area or the entire tray.
  3. Chips and cracks are filled, reinforced and sanded level.
  4. We colour-match the repair, or spray a new finish across the entire tray.
  5. We leave it to cure; the shower is typically usable the following day.

Looking after it afterwards

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Reseal when the silicone splits or turns black
  • Do not stand heavy bottles on the tray
  • Keep harsh chemicals off the tray
  • Keep the bathroom well ventilated

Check the silicone around the tray every few months, and replace it when it splits or goes black.

Act on split sealant early. Water gets behind and under the tray and can cause damage underneath.

Repairs by material

Ceramic

Ceramic gives a hard, high-gloss surface. Impacts can chip or crack them, and the repair is polished to match the shine.

Stone resin

Stone resin trays are popular because they’re rigid and low-profile. They need a flat, solid base, and repairs are matched to the gel coat.
