Shower tray repair for Dobwalls homes

How to care for the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Do not ignore a tray that flexes
  • Rinse away soap after showering

Keep heavy bottles off the tray floor, to avoid chips.

Act on split sealant early. Water gets behind and under the tray and can damage the floor below.

About our shower tray repair in Dobwalls

We check the tray before repairing it: a tray that moves needs its support sorted first, or the crack will come back. We will tell you if that’s the case. We are frequently asked to fix movement when you stand on it and cracks running from the waste, in enamelled steel, stone resin and cast iron.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic trays are lighter and slightly flexible, so a firm base is essential. We repair cracks and scratches.

Stone resin

Stone resin trays are popular because they’re rigid and low-profile. They need a flat, solid base, and repairs are matched to the gel coat.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How much damage there is

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Send photos for a quote

When you take your photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any details about the material
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Most clients in Dobwalls get their price from pictures. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Dobwalls: your questions answered

Do you redo the sealant?

We can. It’s a good time to replace old sealant.

How do I book?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

When can I use the shower again?

We will give you the curing time on the day.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, often. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Is a cracked tray repairable?

Often. A tray that moves needs its support sorting before the repair.

Should you replace it?

A new shower tray often means a new enclosure fitting, new tiling and new sealant. Repairing it avoids all of that and costs far less. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. A repair typically costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.

How it works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. After that, protection goes down around the work area and we start. Allow a few hours, or most of a day for a full resurface, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. We protect the floor and the enclosure.
  2. Any sealant in the way is cut out.
  3. We clean and key the tray, then repair the damage.
  4. The surface is refinished to match.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when you can shower.

Advice

When a repair isn’t the answer

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Movement caused by a poor base, until the support is fixed
  • Water damage to the floor beneath the tray
  • Leaks from the waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Enamelled steel
  • Ceramic
  • Cast iron
  • Stone resin

What we are called out for in Dobwalls

Trays crack mainly because they move: if a tray wasn’t bedded on a solid, even base, it flexes each time someone stands on it. Dropped bottles cause most chips.

If you can see any of these, send us a picture:

  • Chipped corners or rims
  • Damage from a refit or building work
  • Staining and dullness across the tray
  • Damage around the waste

What to look for in a quote

  • How the colour is matched
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
