Shower tray repair in Firth

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Shower tray repair at your home in Firth

We repair a lot of shower trays. Chips by the waste, cracks across the base and dull, stained surfaces are all things we fix in place. Typical jobs include edge chips from dropped bottles and scratches from cleaning or grit, on enamelled steel, stone resin and ceramic.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Firth and across the Shetland Islands.

Repairing versus replacing in Firth

A new shower tray normally involves removing the screen and tiling, relaying the base and re-tiling. Repairing or resurfacing the tray leaves all of that alone. Our shower tray repair starts from £95. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Firth. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Different materials, different repairs

Ceramic

Ceramic trays are hard and glossy. They chip and crack from impact, and the repair is polished to match the shine.

Stone resin

Stone resin is a dense, rigid material with a smooth gel coat. They crack if the base isn’t fully supported, and chips can be filled and matched.

What happens on the day

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take a few hours, or most of the day to resurface the whole tray, including clearing up.

  1. First we check the tray is solid and work out why any crack happened.
  2. The damaged area, or the entire tray, is cleaned and prepared.
  3. Chips and cracks are filled, reinforced and sanded level.
  4. We colour-match the repair, or spray a new finish across the whole tray.
  5. The tray is left to cure and can normally be used the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Common problems we fix in Firth

Rigid trays don’t bend, they crack if the floor beneath them is not flat and fully supported. Movement in a timber floor has the same effect.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • Damage from a refit or building work
  • A tray that looks tired however much you clean it
  • A tray that flexes
  • Cracks running from the waste

Choosing a repair company

What shower tray repair costs

Prices start from £95. We price every job individually. The main factors are:

  • The type of damage
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • The material and finish

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Quotes from your photos

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To make it quick:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • Details of any past repairs
  • The material, if you know it
  • Natural light rather than flash

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Check the seal every few months
  • Report any creaking or movement early
  • Avoid strong descalers and bleach
  • Give the tray a quick rinse after use

Rinse the tray after use, clean with mild cleaners, and keep an eye on the sealant so water cannot get underneath.

If the tray creaks or moves, get it checked, before it cracks or gets worse.
