Grayshott: your questions answered

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit generally costs less than separate visits. Include pictures of each item.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Can I keep using a cracked tray?

It’s best to stop using it until it’s checked, in case water is getting through.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures can’t show what we need.

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

Should you replace it?

A new shower tray normally means removing the screen and tiling, relaying the base and re-tiling. A repair or resurface leaves all of that alone. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Grayshott. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Enamelled steel

Enamelled steel trays behave like steel baths. Chips can rust if they’re left, so it’s worth repairing early.

What we are called out for in Grayshott

Heavy bottles, shower heads and dropped razors chip trays, typically on the edges or near the plughole.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Chipped corners or rims

Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Don’t use strong acids or bleach
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Replace failing sealant promptly
  • Rinse away soap after showering

Rinse the tray down after showering, clean with mild cleaners, and keep the sealant in good condition so water can’t get underneath.

A tray that moves underfoot needs looking at, before it cracks.

Honest limits

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Plumbing leaks under the tray
  • Multiple cracks across the tray
  • Movement caused by a poor base, until the support is fixed

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

  • Cast iron
  • Ceramic
  • Stone resin

For landlords and businesses

For anyone letting property in or around Grayshott, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send photos for each address and we will price them together.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

How it works

Here’s how a visit typically runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for a few hours for a repair, longer for a full resurface. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. The surrounding area is sheeted and masked.
  2. Any sealant in the way is cut out.
  3. The tray is cleaned, keyed and repaired.
  4. The surface is refinished to match.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when you can shower.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

Can I fix it myself?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.
