About our shower tray repair in Redhall

In most cases, a damaged tray can be repaired where it is, from a chip by the waste to a crack across the base. The colour and finish are matched. We work on cast iron, ceramic and enamelled steel, and the jobs we see most are chips or cracks by the plughole and a tray that flexes.

Every job is backed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Common problems we fix in Redhall

On timber floors, movement can crack a tray, especially if the tray wasn’t bedded properly. On solid floors, cracks normally point to an uneven base.

Look out for these signs:

  • Movement when you stand on it
  • Scuffs and light scratches
  • A crack across the base
  • A tray that looks tired however much you clean it

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

Why repair rather than replace?

When the tray is firm and dry underneath, repair is the obvious choice. If the floor is damaged or the tray is badly cracked, replacement may make more sense. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before booking.

Redhall questions

Which areas do you work in?

The entire UK, including all of Edinburgh. Send your postcode with your photos and we will offer you dates.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first, so mention it when you send pictures.

Is it OK to use a cracked tray?

Only if you’re sure it isn’t leaking. Look for damp or stains below.

Can you resurface a whole tray?

Yes. The entire tray can be resurfaced.

Can a cracked shower tray be repaired?

In most cases. A tray that moves needs its support sorting before the repair.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day.

Different materials, different repairs

Stone resin

Stone resin is a dense, rigid material with a smooth gel coat. Poor support underneath leads to cracks, and chips are filled and matched to the surface.

Enamelled steel

Enamelled steel trays behave like steel baths. Chips can rust if they’re left, so it’s worth repairing early.

For landlords and businesses

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, photos and access details and we will handle the rest.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

What shower tray repair costs

Repairs from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to Redhall. The price depends on:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many items we do on one visit

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Getting a price from pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Any details about the material
  • One picture of the entire shower tray

For a price in Redhall, the easiest route is photos: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

What happens on the day

Once we’re through the door, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a few hours, or most of a day for a full resurface, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We check the tray is firmly supported and find the cause of any crack.
  2. Next we clean and prepare the tray.
  3. Chips and cracks are filled, reinforced and sanded level.
  4. We match the colour, or refinish the full tray.
  5. The tray is left to cure and can generally be used the day after.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Advice

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner
  • Ventilate the room after showers
  • Store bottles off the tray
  • Replace failing sealant promptly

Keep an eye on the sealant, and reseal when it starts to fail.

Every shower forces a little water into a crack, and over months that can rot the floor. Getting it repaired quickly is much cheaper than fixing a floor.
