Repairing versus replacing in The Chart
A new tray can be cheap, but fitting it is not: removing the screen, breaking out tiles, relaying the base and re-tiling. Repairing it takes one visit. Our shower tray repair starts from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

About our shower tray repair in The Chart
We check the tray before repairing it: if it flexes underfoot, the cause needs sorting before any repair, or the crack will come back. We will explain what we find. We regularly repair ceramic, acrylic and enamelled steel, and common reasons people contact us are a tray that creaks or moves underfoot and chips or cracks by the plughole.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after the visit.

Should I try a DIY kit first?
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.
Aftercare tips
Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:
- Report any creaking or movement early
- Rinse the tray after each shower
- Replace failing sealant promptly
- Keep the bathroom well ventilated
Avoid abrasive pads and strong descalers. A soft cloth and washing-up liquid do the job.
A small crack lets in a little water every time you shower, and over months that can rot the floor. Getting it repaired quickly is much cheaper than fixing a floor.
What your shower tray is made of matters
Ceramic
Ceramic gives a hard, high-gloss surface. Impacts can chip or crack them, and we match the gloss when we repair them.
Stone resin
Stone resin trays are rigid and slim. A flat, solid base is essential, and repairs are matched to the gel coat.

Common questions in The Chart
Is a repair better than a new one?
In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.
Is it OK to have pets in the house?
On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.
What happens if you find more damage?
Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.
How quickly can you book me in?
It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.
How long does it take to cure?
You’ll get the exact time when we finish, normally the day after.
Can you resurface a whole tray?
Yes. The whole tray can be resurfaced without removing it.
Are you a vetted contractor?
We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.
Will there be a smell?
A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.
What happens on the day
Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for a few hours, or most of a day for a full resurface from start to finish. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and how to care for it.
- First we check the tray is solid and work out why any crack happened.
- The damaged area, or the whole tray, is cleaned and prepared.
- Chips and cracks are filled, reinforced and sanded level.
- We match the colour, or refinish the full tray.
- We leave it to cure; the shower is normally usable the day after.
How to prepare
- Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
- Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
- Let the surface dry out before the visit
