Work for landlords and builders

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Shower tray repair in The Hyde, done in place

The first thing we do is check the tray: if it flexes underfoot, the cause needs sorting before any repair, or the crack will come back. We’ll explain what we find. We work on cast iron, stone resin and ceramic, and common reasons people get in touch are a tray that flexes and snagging damage in a new bathroom.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll come back.

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Rinse away soap after showering
  • Don’t stand heavy bottles on the tray
  • Reseal when the silicone splits or turns black
  • Don’t use strong acids or bleach

Rinse the tray down after showering, clean with mild cleaners, and keep an eye on the sealant so water can’t get underneath.

Failed sealant around a tray should be replaced quickly. It lets water behind the tray and can cause damage underneath.

Can I fix it myself?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

What we’re called out for in The Hyde

Most cracked trays are trays that flex: if a tray wasn’t bedded on a solid, even base, it flexes each time someone stands on it. Dropped bottles cause most chips.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • Scuffs and light scratches
  • Chips or cracks by the plughole
  • Cracks running from the waste
  • Damage from a refit or building work

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Ceramic

Ceramic trays are hard and glossy. They chip and crack from impact, and the repair is polished to match the shine.

Acrylic

Acrylic-capped trays are lighter, so good support matters. Cracks and scratches can be repaired.

The Hyde: your questions answered

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Can a stained tray be refinished?

Yes. We can resurface the whole tray for a fresh finish.

Do you come to The Hyde?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and travel to The Hyde. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can you replace the silicone at the same time?

Yes. We can repair and reseal on the same visit.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners in The Hyde.

Can I keep using a cracked tray?

It’s best to stop using it until it’s checked, because water may be getting underneath.

What does shower tray repair cost?

Prices start from £95. We give a fixed price based on photos of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

What we do, step by step

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take a few hours, or most of a day for a full resurface, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. The surrounding area is sheeted and masked.
  2. Any sealant in the way is cut out.
  3. The tray is cleaned, keyed and repaired.
  4. We refinish the surface to match the tray.
  5. We clean up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

What affects the price in The Hyde

Prices start from £95. Prices are worked out job by job. What matters most is:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • The material
  • What kind of damage it is

There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Quotes from your photos

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three photos using our quote form or call us. We’ll say straight away if a repair is the right fix.

Why repair rather than replace?

If the tray is solid and the crack hasn’t let water spread, repair is usually best. If water has damaged the floor, or the tray is cracked in several places, a new tray may be better. Our shower tray repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
