Shower tray repair near West Leith

How we handle shower tray repair in West Leith

Every crack has a cause, and we find it first. If the tray moves, the support is fixed or flagged before we repair it, so the repair lasts. We work on enamelled steel, acrylic and ceramic, and common reasons people contact us are edge chips from dropped bottles and a damaged area around the waste.

You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Common problems we fix in West Leith

The waste is a common starting point for cracks, because that is where the tray is weakest and the fitting puts pressure on it.

  • Movement when you stand on it
  • Chips caused during fitting
  • Staining and dullness across the tray

West Leith questions

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Is it OK to use a cracked tray?

Only if you are sure it isn’t leaking. Look for damp or stains below.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Can you replace the silicone at the same time?

Yes. We can repair and reseal on the same visit.

When can I use the shower again?

We will give you the curing time on the day.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Normally, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.

Why repair rather than replace?

The tray is usually the last thing fitted and the first thing tiled up to, so taking one out disturbs a lot. Repairing it avoids that disruption. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

What you get with us

  • Work done at your home or business
  • One visit for most repairs
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing

How to care for the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Don’t stand heavy bottles on the tray
  • Give the tray a quick rinse after use
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Replace failing sealant promptly

Store heavy bottles on a shelf, not on the tray, so they cannot be knocked over.

Stop using the shower if the tray is cracked. Water may be getting under the tray, and the damage below is not visible.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

What happens on the day

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take a few hours, or most of a day for a full resurface, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. We make sure the tray doesn’t flex and look for the cause of any crack.
  2. The damaged area, or the entire tray, is cleaned and prepared.
  3. Chips and cracks are filled, reinforced and sanded level.
  4. We match the colour, or refinish the full tray.
  5. We leave it to cure; the shower is normally usable the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Advice

Work for landlords and builders

If you manage property in West Leith, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we’ll price them together.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

Repairs by material

Enamelled steel

Steel trays have an enamel surface like a steel bath. Chips can rust if they’re left, so it’s worth repairing early.

Acrylic

Acrylic-capped trays are lighter, so good support matters. We repair cracks and scratches.
