Shower tray repair in Winchester, done in place

Stone resin, acrylic and ceramic trays can all be repaired, or resurface the entire tray if it’s worn. Nothing is taken out, so the enclosure and tiles aren’t disturbed. Our repair technicians work on ceramic, enamelled steel and cast iron, and common reasons people get in touch are a damaged area around the waste and chips on the edges.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

How the visit works

Here’s how a visit normally runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Allow a few hours, or most of the day to resurface the whole tray from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. First we check the tray is solid and work out why any crack happened.
  2. We clean and prepare the damaged area or the entire tray.
  3. Chips and cracks are filled, reinforced and sanded level.
  4. The repair is colour matched, or the entire tray gets a new finish.
  5. We leave it to cure; the shower is generally usable the next day.

How to prepare

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

FAQs for Winchester

We would stop using it until it’s repaired, in case water is getting through.

Do you work in Winchester?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Can a cracked shower tray be repaired?

Usually, as long as it does not flex. The crack is reinforced, filled and refinished.

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

What shower tray repair costs

Prices start from £95. We give every job a fixed price from photos. These are the things that affect it:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How much damage there is
  • The material
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed quote

You can take the photos on your phone, there is no need for anything special. Make sure they show:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • The material, if you know it
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

10 questions to ask before you book

What a repair cannot fix

A repair is not always the answer, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs will not solve:

  • Multiple cracks across the tray
  • Plumbing leaks under the tray
  • Rotten or damaged flooring underneath

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Stone resin
  • Ceramic
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron
  • Enamelled steel

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Stone resin

Stone resin is a dense, rigid material with a smooth gel coat. Poor support underneath leads to cracks, and chips can be filled and matched.

Keeping it looking good

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Do not stand heavy bottles on the tray
  • Reseal when the silicone splits or turns black
  • Keep the bathroom well ventilated
  • Keep harsh chemicals off the tray

Keep an eye on the sealant, and replace it when it splits or goes black.

A tray that moves underfoot needs looking at, before it cracks.

Repairing versus replacing in Winchester

The tray itself may not cost much, but the work around it does: removing the screen, breaking out tiles, relaying the base and re-tiling. Repairing it takes one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
