Trusted sink repair in Alves

Why repair rather than replace?

Matching a discontinued basin can be impossible, particularly if it matches the toilet and bath. A repair keeps your suite matching. Prices start from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How we handle sink repair in Alves

A chip on a basin is hard to ignore. The chip is filled, shaped and polished so it blends into the glaze. Our technicians work on antique & period basins, Belfast and butler sinks and ceramic & vitreous china basins, and people most frequently call us about a crazed, tired basin and a chipped vanity basin.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll sort it.

What we cannot put right

We won’t take on work that will not last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Glaze crazing across the entire basin, where resurfacing is better
  • A basin that moves on its brackets
  • Leaks from the fittings

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on

  • Vanity unit basins
  • Ceramic & vitreous china basins
  • Belfast and butler sinks
  • Enamelled basins
  • Antique & period basins

What happens on the day

You don’t need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take a few hours, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We protect the area around the basin.
  2. We clean and prepare the chip or crack.
  3. We fill it and shape it to the basin’s curve.
  4. The colour is matched by hand.
  5. We polish it to match the shine and leave it to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Open a window if you can

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

What sink repair costs

Prices start from £95. You’ll know the full cost before booking. We take into account:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book.

Getting a price from photos

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

To get a price, send two or three photos through our quote form or ring us. We’ll tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

What your basin is made of matters

Vitreous china

Ceramic basins have a fired, glassy surface. Repairs are polished to match that glaze.

Period and antique

Period basins frequently have marks and character worth keeping. We repair them sympathetically.

Work for landlords and builders

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

For anyone letting property in or around Alves, we will quote for several properties at once. Send photos for each one and we will come back with a combined price.

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Use gentle cleaners
  • Keep heavy bottles off the rim
  • Get chips repaired early
  • Keep straighteners away from the basin

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and take care with heavy bottles and hair tools.

A chip near the waste or taps can let water into the body of the basin. Early repair keeps it a small job.
