Sink repair for Castle homes

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Period and antique

Period basins often have marks and character worth keeping. We repair them sympathetically and leave the character intact.

Composite and resin

Cast mineral and resin basins are common in vanity units. They repair well, and the colour is mixed to suit.

Sink repair at your home in Castle

When a basin is worn or crazed all over, it can be resurfaced in place, giving it an even new finish. Our repair technicians work on vanity unit basins, Belfast and butler sinks and ceramic & vitreous china basins, and common reasons people get in touch are crazing in the glaze and chips from dropped toiletries.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Castle and across Cardiff.

Chipped basin edge, before and after repair

What sink repair costs

Repairs from £95. There is no charge for travel to Castle. The price comes down to:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • What the surface is made of
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Castle. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from photos

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Any details about the material
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole basin, we can give you a fixed quote without visiting.

Aftercare tips

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Fittings shouldn’t be over-tightened
  • Have new chips repaired quickly
  • Use a heat mat for hair tools
  • Keep heavy bottles off the rim

Don’t rest hot hair tools or heavy bottles on the rim, so it does not get chipped again.

Cracks by the tap holes can grow, so get it looked at early. If it’s leaking, turn off the water to the basin until it’s checked.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a basin frequently means a plumber, new taps or wastes and making good the tiling. Repairing it keeps the basin you have. Prices start from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

What you get with us

  • Everything repaired in place
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface

Read our prices page.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

What we can’t put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Leaks from the fittings
  • A basin coming away from the wall (that needs refixing)
  • A crack that leaks right through the basin

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we work on

Castle questions

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Do you need to take the basin off the wall?

No. The repair is done in place, with the taps left connected.

Can you repair a cracked basin?

In many cases. Send us pictures and we will tell you.

How do I book?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Do you cover Castle?

We do. We send a technician to Castle for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Can you repair an antique basin?

Yes. We repair them without hiding their character.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Castle

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send photos, the address and how to get access.

How it works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Allow a few hours from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. First the basin is cleaned and the damage checked.
  2. The chip or crack is filled and shaped to match the basin.
  3. We colour-match the finish to the glaze.
  4. The repair is polished so it blends in.
  5. Generally the basin is back in use the same day or the next.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Ask for a price

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.
