About our sink repair in Four Ashes

When a basin is worn or crazed all over, we can resurface it in place, giving it an even new finish. We work on Belfast and butler sinks, vanity unit basins and ceramic & vitreous china basins, and common reasons people contact us are an original basin worth saving and a chipped basin edge.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months in Four Ashes and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Store toiletries on a shelf
  • Avoid abrasive pads
  • Use mild cleaners only
  • Use a heat mat for hair tools

Do not rest hot hair tools or heavy bottles on the rim, so it doesn’t get chipped again.

A crack near the taps can spread, so it’s worth having it checked quickly. If water is getting through, isolate the basin until it’s seen to.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What we can’t put right

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • Glaze crazing across the whole basin, where resurfacing is better
  • Leaks from the fittings
  • A basin cracked through and leaking

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

Four Ashes: your questions answered

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted.

Do you cover Four Ashes?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Four Ashes for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Can you keep the maker’s mark?

Yes. Period basins are worth keeping, and we repair them sympathetically.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

What information do you need?

Photos of the damage, a photo of the whole basin and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

Are there extra charges for Four Ashes?

There is no separate call-out charge. Your fixed quote includes everything.

Can you repair a chipped basin?

Yes, it’s one of our most common jobs. We shape and polish it to match the glaze.
