Sink repair in Hawthorn

What your basin is made of matters

Period and antique

Period basins often have marks and character worth keeping. We repair carefully around original features and leave the character intact.

Composite and resin

Cast mineral and resin basins are common in vanity units. They repair well, with colour mixed on site.

Sink repair in Hawthorn, done in place

Antique and period basins are worth repairing, and we repair around makers’ marks where we can. Replacing them with something similar can be difficult. We work on enamelled basins, antique & period basins and Belfast and butler sinks, and the jobs we see most are damage to a basin in a vanity unit and knocks from hair straighteners.

You’re covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Before and after: a chip on the front of a bathroom basin repaired

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing a basin can mean a plumber, new taps and a new waste and repairs to the tiles or vanity unit. Repairing it keeps the basin you have. Prices start from £95. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

How it works

You do not need to empty the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. It normally takes a few hours, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. We start by cleaning the basin and assessing the damage.
  2. Next we fill the damage and shape it to the basin’s profile.
  3. The finish is matched to the glaze.
  4. We polish it into the surrounding surface.
  5. You can normally use the basin later that day or the next.

Before we arrive

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Ask for a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the entire basin, include your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Advice

What affects the price in Hawthorn

Prices start from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The colour and finish to match
  • The material and finish

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Hawthorn. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

How to get a fixed price

Before you send photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Any details about the material

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire basin, we can price the job.

Honest limits

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Through cracks that let water out
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A loose basin, until it’s refixed

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Ceramic & vitreous china basins
  • Antique & period basins
  • Enamelled basins
  • Vanity unit basins
  • Belfast and butler sinks

Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Use mild cleaners only
  • Do not overtighten taps
  • Use a heat mat for hair tools
  • Get chips repaired early

Do not rest hot hair tools or heavy bottles on the rim, to avoid new chips.

Cracks by the tap holes can grow, so get it looked at early. If it’s leaking, turn off the water to the basin until it’s checked.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.
