Sink repair in Hincaster, done in place
Antique and period basins are worth repairing, and we repair around makers’ marks where we can. Replacing them with something similar can be difficult. We work on vanity unit basins, Belfast and butler sinks and antique & period basins, and people most often call us about a chipped vanity basin and a period basin that needs restoring.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once we’ve gone.

Keeping it looking good
Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:
- Steer clear of harsh chemicals
- Store toiletries on a shelf
- Fittings shouldn’t be over-tightened
- Use a heat mat for hair tools
Go gently for the first few days, then stick to mild cleaners. Keep heavy bottles and hot hair tools off the rim.
Chips collect dirt and stain over time, so the sooner it’s repaired, the better.
What a repair can’t fix
In fairness, some problems need a different fix:
- A loose basin, until it’s refixed
- A crack that leaks right through the basin
- Widespread crazing
Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before booking.
Surfaces we repair
- Enamelled basins
- Belfast and butler sinks
- Vanity unit basins
- Ceramic & vitreous china basins
- Antique & period basins
Work for landlords and builders
We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Hincaster as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.
Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which matters when someone is living in the home.
What happens on the day
On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will take it from there. Most visits take a morning or an afternoon, including clearing up.
- The vanity, floor and taps are protected.
- We clean and prepare the chip or crack.
- It’s filled and shaped to the basin.
- The colour is matched by hand.
- We polish it to match the shine and leave it to cure.
How to prepare
- Tell us about parking, stairs or access
- Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Ensure the area is dry

Advice
Repair or replace: which is better?
A basin is typically fixed into a unit or tiled around, so changing one disturbs the surroundings. Repairing it keeps everything as it is. Prices start from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Can I fix it myself?
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.
If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.
Hincaster questions
Will you leave a mess?
Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
Do you hold any accreditations?
Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.
Is a repair better than a new one?
Typically, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.
What do you need from me?
Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.
Is a chipped basin repairable?
Yes, very often. The repair is shaped and polished to blend in.
Is there a call-out fee?
There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.
Will there be a smell?
A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.
What your basin is made of matters
Composite and resin
Many vanity units have resin or composite basins. They repair well, with colour mixed on site.
Period and antique
Older basins may have crazing, chips and makers’ marks. We repair them sympathetically and leave the character intact.
