Sink repair at your home in Inchmarlo

Whether it’s a chipped rim or a crack by the tap holes, most basin damage can be repaired without removing anything. The taps stay connected and the basin stays on the wall. We’re often asked to fix damage from dropped bottles or hair tools and crazing in the glaze, across Belfast and butler sinks, ceramic & vitreous china basins and antique & period basins.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Questions from Inchmarlo

Is there a call-out fee?

We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

What information do you need?

Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

Can you keep the maker’s mark?

Yes. Where possible, we work around makers’ marks. Tell us about it when you send photos.

Will the price change on the day?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Do you come to Inchmarlo?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and come to Inchmarlo and the rest of Aberdeenshire. Send pictures and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can a cracked sink be fixed?

Normally, if it is not leaking. If it leaks through, replacement is normally better.

What does sink repair cost?

Prices start from £95. Every job gets a fixed quote based on photos of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

What happens after I send pictures?

We look at the pictures and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

What happens on the day

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a morning or an afternoon, depending on what we find, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We check the basin is secure and not leaking.
  2. We degrease and key the damage.
  3. We build up the filler and sand it flush.
  4. We match the colour and the gloss.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can be used.

Advice

What sink repair costs

Prices start from £95. There’s no charge for travel to Inchmarlo. The price comes down to:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

How to get a fixed price

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • What it’s made of, if you know

Most customers in Inchmarlo get their price from photos. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

What a repair cannot fix

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we will tell you before we start. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A basin coming away from the wall (that needs refixing)
  • Plumbing leaks
  • Widespread crazing

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Enamelled basins
  • Vanity unit basins
  • Ceramic & vitreous china basins
  • Antique & period basins
  • Belfast and butler sinks

Repair or replace: which is better?

A basin is typically fixed into a unit or tiled around, so replacing one disturbs more than you’d expect. Repairing it keeps everything as it is. Our sink repair starts from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it.

Repairs by material

Composite and resin

Cast mineral and resin basins are common in vanity units. Chips and scratches can be filled and matched, with colour mixed on site.

Vitreous china

Vitreous china is fired ceramic with a glassy glaze. We polish repairs to match the glaze.

How to look after the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Don’t stand heavy bottles on the edge
  • Ask a plumber not to overtighten fittings
  • Avoid strong bleach and descalers
  • Use a heat mat for hair tools

Wipe the basin over after use, and steer clear of harsh chemicals.

Cracks by the tap holes can grow, so it’s worth having it checked quickly. If water is getting through, isolate the basin until it’s seen to.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

When to call us in Inchmarlo
