Choosing a repair company

Tile repair in Mintlaw without replacing anything

If a tile moves, it may need relaying first, and we will say so. The tile stays where it is, so you do not need to find a spare. Common call-outs are for damaged tile edges and discontinued tiles you can’t replace, in ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles and floor and wall tiles.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll sort it. Take care with heavy items on repaired tiles, and use a pH-neutral cleaner.

Before and after: damaged granite tiles repaired in place

What a repair cannot fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • Loose or hollow tiles that need relaying
  • Cracks caused by a moving floor, until the floor is fixed
  • Whole walls of failing grout

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

Mintlaw: your questions answered

Can a cracked tile be fixed in place?

Usually, if it is not loose.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

What does tile repair cost?

Repairs from £95. We give a fixed quote based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your AB42 postcode.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses across Aberdeenshire.

What happens after I send pictures?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before.

Will it make a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. There is no area surcharge for Mintlaw. The price reflects:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • How many areas need work

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed price

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A wider photo showing the entire tiled area

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Swapping out a damaged tile involves breaking out the old tile, finding a match and risking the tiles around it. Repairing it keeps the original tile. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

The process

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, and get on with the job, which normally takes a few hours. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. We clean the tile and remove loose fragments.
  2. The chip, crack or hole is filled.
  3. The repair is levelled to the tile surface.
  4. The colour and pattern are recreated by hand.
  5. The repair is sealed to suit the tile’s finish.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
