How we handle tile repair in Ridge

The tile stays where it is, so you do not need to find a spare. If a tile moves, it may need relaying first, and we will tell you. We work on marble, floor and wall tiles and natural stone & granite, and common reasons people contact us are cracked floor tiles and drill holes from removed fittings.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back. Avoid dropping heavy items on repaired floor tiles, and use a pH-neutral cleaner.

What happens on the day

Once we’re through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the job takes a morning or an afternoon, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We start by cleaning the tile and clearing loose fragments.
  2. Next we fill the damage.
  3. We level and shape the repair to the tile surface.
  4. The colour and pattern are recreated by hand.
  5. We seal the repair to suit the finish of the tile.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

How to get a price

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the tiled area, add your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Advice

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

What a repair cannot fix

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Loose or hollow tiles that need relaying
  • Cracks caused by a moving floor, until the floor is fixed
  • Whole walls of failing grout

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we’re called out for in Ridge

Floor tiles chip when pans, tins and tools are dropped, while walls end up with drill holes from old fittings. Cracks can also come from movement in the floor below.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Chips from dropped pans and tools
  • Discontinued tiles you cannot replace
  • Drill holes from removed fittings
  • Cracked floor tiles

What your quote should include

  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • What aftercare is recommended

Ridge questions

Do you work in Ridge?

We do. We send a technician to Ridge for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

Is there a guarantee?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Will it make a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Can you price it without visiting?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

What happens after I send photos?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing a tile means breaking it out, tracking down a matching tile and possibly cracking its neighbours. Repairing it leaves the tile where it is. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You will see the full price before booking, with nothing added on the day.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to Ridge. The price comes down to:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How easy the damage is to reach

Instead of hourly rates, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Send photos for a quote

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Natural light rather than flash

For a price in Ridge, the easiest route is photos: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

If you manage property in Ridge, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send pictures for each address and we’ll come back with a combined price.
